Rent Crisis
Share
When it comes to finding a place to rent in Sydney, one thing is for sure - it's going to cost you. With prices on the rise year after year, the Sydney rental market is one of the most expensive in the world. So, why is rent in Sydney so expensive?
High Demand, Low Supply
One of the main reasons for the high cost of rent in Sydney is the imbalance between supply and demand. With a growing population and limited space, there simply aren't enough rental properties to go around. This drives up prices as landlords can afford to charge more for their properties.
Who Feels It Hardest
For newly arrived and displaced families — including many of the families Link Australia supports — this crisis isn't an abstract headline. A missed week's rent or a bond they can't front can mean the difference between a stable home and starting over. Rising rents hit hardest exactly where there's the least room to absorb a shock: families rebuilding their lives from nothing.
How Link Australia Is Responding
This is why rent relief remains one of our most requested and most urgent forms of support. Through our Rent Relief appeal, donations go directly toward covering rent and bond payments for families at risk of losing their homes. Every dollar given is a dollar between a family and the street.
